Mrs Elsie Quinn
MAWA has established honours scholarships of $10,000 which will be awarded annually to support students undertaking honours research projects that do not use animals or animal products. These scholarships are being offered as an incentive to encourage new graduates at the beginning of their research careers with regard to the scientific advantages and merit of non-animal research. The hiatus between honours and doctoral studies has been of concern to the MAWA management committee as it is difficult for students to change direction having already embarked on an animal-based research career.
In recognition of the outstanding generosity and support given by Mrs Elsie Quinn for over thirty years, the management committee of The MAWA Trust decided that the newly established honours scholarships should be designated the MAWA Quinn Honours Scholarships. Elsie, who celebrated her 90th birthday last year has been a major donor to MAWA and has done much to raise awareness of the issue of animal experiments and MAWA’s aims.
